from piano tuner to Abbey Road chief engineer

haydn bendall

Today’s treat was meeting up again with Haydn Bendall and that has been a while. He started at EMI’s Abbey Road studio in the early Seventies and rose through the ranks receiving as he says, a fantastic education working with all types of music, classical, pop, rock, middle of the road. The all round insight that this extraordinary studio gave its staff in those days. He says that the intensity of making an album with someone is rather like a summer romance – very intense, very intimate, but you know it is all going to come to an end. The different aspects of life in the British music business then is endlessly fascinating, for so many people their experiences were unique and utterly life changing.
